Need help at our church. We have a Deacon that has made people leave by telling them that they are not saved. Yes, he actually claims, judgmentally in my opinion, that they cannot be saved unless they divorce.
If they divorce and remarry, then it has to be with the first partner in their life. And, he quotes out of
1 Cor: 7:1-11. Some farther down, but he gets his beliefs mainly from vs. 11. This precious souls have been so hurt. They have left the church against our desires. Now, the deacon outwardly shows happiness about it. When we began to realize that the majority of people that have stopped coming there were divorcee's, we started our search to God for help. I have found this very harmful, and am also offended by his beliefs. I've not been divorced. But, these people became Christians after they were married. They have been married for, I believe they said, over 30 yrs.
Please help us to understand the scripture so that we might help him to do the same. For me, I do not believe he is qualified to be a deacon. His own daughter has two children from two marriages. His second daughter had her first child out of wedlock. All this in the past 4 yrs. Sadly, he tells his own daughter that she cannot be saved. She is very inquisitive to my husband, and he believes she is wanting to be saved. We pastor there. At this point, we are at a loss of how to help him and are simply trying to get thru to others. Especially the lost.
