He was a prophet of the OT
he was the first prophet to begin to "preach" through words and not through actions like those prophets before him
also
he was not born a prophet
he was a "sheep herder"
his name means "burden bearer"
the theme of amos is the coming judgement of isreal because of its sin
there are 8 prophecies
3 sermons
5 visions
5 promises
the book seems to be all "gloom and doom" untill the end
where it ends with a promise from God
thats the general stuff
