The "Hall of Souls" is correctly spelled "GUP" or "GUPH", and is also known as a "treasury of Soul". You will find more information on the subject in a book called "The Study of the Kabalah" by William Wynn Westcott.

By the way, interesting little note on the the page number used in the the book from the movie. Guph is ociated with #358. Like all esoteric movies, pay attention to the numbers. #358 x 72 (another holy number) = 26,776. This last number is the number of the precession of the equinox, also known as the Platonic year, the Sothic year, the Plieadic year, etc. Supposedly, this is the "great year" that rolls around and causes end of the world cataclysm.
