I think the Trinity is perfect. It ties YHWH to His creation. Otherwise He is just too far awy. But mankind is as much of the flesh as he is of the spirit. We need a god who took on flesh and lived with us.
Also when I look at nature I don't see evidence of the unity you claim. I see diversity - irreconcilable diversity.
And when I look inside myself I see a love of family, kin, and tribe that fits more into a Trinitarian universe than it does into a Unitarian one.
