Math is not limited to telling us things about the "real world", but it certainly can do that. I don't think we could say that it is PART of the "real world". Math is just a "logic tool". It can simplify logic for us. Or, help us solve things that are out of our reasoning ability. Logic usually deals with the real world, so math can "tell" us things about the real world, but it cannot solve all of our mysteries.
