: Welcome to the Kingdom of EnenKio Our people -- forgotten amongst clouds of atomic dust and rubble of colonialism, Our heritage -- unceremoniously stripped from the king and his ancestors, Our islands -- mired in a conflict of international proportions. Wake Atoll (by its westernized name) CLICK ON GRAPHIC FOR A REAL VIEW OF ISLANDS ! ! ! CLICK ON GRAPHIC FOR A REAL VIEW OF ISLANDS ! ! ! "Wake" Atoll - A case of mistaken identity for 100 years! Overview: Many islands and groups of islands, generally ociated to one another by culture and heritage of their native Pacific or Caribbean inhabitants, were "named" by foreign explorers during the pre-20th Century era of discovery and colonial conquest. Western powers, in virtually all cases, ignored names previously used by their respective inhabitants. Such was indeed the case in the Aelon Kein, which today bears a name of a British explorer -- the Marshall Islands. Little did the Spanish Explorer Alvaro de Mendaña realize, as the first western "discoverer" of the northern "Marshalls" in 1568, that the atoll above was already called Eneen-Kio (also written Enen-kio) Atoll. The USA was equally ignorant in its landing on Eneen-Kio Atoll on January 17, 1899. This factual representation is inspired by the desire of a people to regain their land and hold on to memories of traditions in the context of a free state.
