Maie was one of Bysshe Shelley's petnames for Mary Shelley. Two others were "Pecksie" and "The Dormouse"...
All three appear in one of Shelley's less - shall we say - important poems, scribbled in one of his notebooks, but not found in the Oxford (or any other) Complete Poetical Works:
"All on her hind legs the Dormouse stood In a wild and mingled mood Of Maieishness and Pecksietude"
All together: Awwwwwwwww!

Laon BTW Shelley was from Sus, and the fact that he was prepared to rhyme "stood", "mood" and "-tude" tell you something about his accent.
