On page 348, Clancy has Gant musing to himself in Beijing "this place didn't have much in the way of automobiles yet."
Clancy obviously hasn't been to Beijing, the main drag is a ring-road around Beijing with 4-6 lanes in each direction bumper to bumper rivaling L.A. rush-hour only all day long; and the craziest drivers in the world. There are far more motor vehicles and private cars than bicycles.
You will be disappointed if you expect good Chinese food there though. The Northerners can't cook! You will find better Chinese food in any American or Canadian City because the owners are Cantonese, and they are the best cooks in the world.
Beijing is defintely an interesting place, a lot of China's history can be seen there: The Great Wall of China, The Forbidden City, The Underground City, The Summer Palace, The Winter Palace, & too many museums to count. Go see for yourself, it's a lot cheaper to take a tour out of Hong Kong than to book one in Canada or USA. I was there last week. You can e-mail me at Wongjo2@hotmail.com
I am a Clancy fan and have read all his books.
