First of all i cannot find anyway that Saint Joan could be refered to as a comedy. Unless you have a sick, demented humor. It is a story of a girl that followed one comand, that of god. Very simple right? she was told to crown to king and corinate him, then to rid france of all the british. also a simple task. But as she is fufilling the orders of the voices she hears *the voices are that of three saints* people are seeing them as great miracles. and her notority builds, while she is merely doing her simple task. When joan is finally defeated, after triumphing over many of the british forts, holds, castles, she is put on trial by the cristian church for the charge of heresy. Many on the jurors *if you could call them that* were pushing for her death and complaining about the other crimes she had commited not being recognized. but the wiser heads won and all charges were foregotten except heresy. not untill the end did joan realize that she might die for her crimes, but the wiser of the jurors beseached her to plead guilty so that they wouldnt have to burn her at the stake. *which was designed in a way to cause much more pain and suffering then it should* Upon hearing this joan, who was a faithful woman but abhored pain, lied and pleaded guilty. This earned her a life sentence in prison and she would only be fed bread and water. Joan almost fainted when she heard her punishment. She ran over and tore up her confession. she exclaimed that she could not live in a prison. that she could live with any punishment just as long as she could be out in the open. dancing in the feilds, hearing the sweetsongs of the birds, listening to the bleating of a lamb. The juror had no other choice but to burn her. she was dragged out and burned off screen. After her death the bishop called that her ashes be gathered and kept. Many of the convictors had seen her death and repented their actions. They knew that deep down the only crime joan was guilty of is Ignorance and Simplicity.
