: What is the moral of the Millers tale? Anybody?
The Miller's Tale has no real "moral."However,
there is some sense of retributive justice at work here. Alison cheats on Nick, but never suffers any real consequences. Absalom is a fool for buying the whole notion that courtly love has any validity (the kisser). Nick gets his
in a lot of hot water for having his way with with
Alison. As for John , his worst fears of being cuyckolded are realized. He would have done better to have married a wife closer to his own age.
The Miller has told a tale in which lusty cleverness is rewarded and romantic love is ridiculed. Moral:? Be a player, not a dutiful or jealous suitor.
