How do we know that we are not in a dream? Remember, in our search of absolute certainty, we must reject any notions that contain a shade of uncertainty. How do we know that we are awake? When we are awake the world is continous, it last longer, and is much clearer than when we are asleep. The problem with saying that these are necessary and sufficient reasons for establishing the waking world as the real world, is that within the dream the dream logic is true. Outside the dream the dream logic is not longer true. In one world continuity is the truth, but in another world disjointedness is the condition. Because our criteria are made within a context, we cannot independently establish any criteria to judge dream or sleep. There is a shade of doubt, so we doubt the waking world entirely.
