Well I just finished reading The Gambler! A great book of course, although I don't think it compares to the Brothers K. I'm writing an essay on The Gambler, and if anyone has some feedback on what I say I'd love to hear it! I'm thinking the theme of the book is something along the lines of..."Gambling with life will leave you miserable." I could be way off on that. And I'm thinking the worldview of the book is a christian worldview, even though everyone seems to think all his books have an existentialist worldview. The reason I think it is Christian, is because there is a definite standard for right and wrong, and even when Alexei is given chances to "redeem" himself(marry Paulina and give up gambling) he continues to sin by gambling. Anyway, these are just my thoughts, I'd love to hear what everyone else got out of this book.
