I don't know what Dostoyevski says about prostitution, but my great great Grandmother managed to come to American and open up a brothel and help immigrant girls find easy work because she was a so it can't be all bad.
Actually Dostoyevski is giving you a struggle between the sins - prostitution or murder. Which one is worse? Why? While Raskolnikov is a murderer, he's cool. But his sister is a whiner. So if you gotta make money- kill the pawnbroker. That's Dostoyevski's theme. Put it in a paper and you are guaranteed an A.
