I love Dostoyevsky's writings and want to discuss them, but also do philosophy. Are the two mutually exclusive? Am re reading Karamazov and was struck by the bit where Alyosha falls down in a fainting fit in his father's house and his father makes the remark to Ivan about Alyosha's mother, seeming to forget she is Ivan's mother; indeed the implication is that she isn't. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
