: Here is a poem I wrote: : Edmund Burke is good : Edmund Burke is great : Edmund Burke believes in the authority of the state. : But only if it's really old. : the end. : I believe that Burke was headed in the right direction when he talked about the natural, long evolution of a state with a trust in our past and the inherent rights that our ancestors have given us. But I also agree with John Stuart Mill and his ideas about the amalgamation of new and old ideas. I know that Mill and Burke are talking about kind of different topics, but I think it's a cool comparison. : I'm not a huge expert on Burke or John Stuart Mill or a huge philosopher, but I was wondering what you thought about the similarities and differences in their ideas about new and old ideas.
