I just read "A Man in Full", by Tom Wolffe, and I thought
that you could find intresting that Wolffe is
the reason because I ended up typing the name of this
(now I know) great philosopher in a web searcher.
In Wolffe's novel, an inocent man goes to prison,
leaving his pregnant wife alone with their other child.
To avoid jail, this man most plead guilty, though he's
not, and somehow, he just can't stand that. So now he's
in jail and he is expecting a copy of a book he ordered
by mail, something called "The stoics game of..." or something
but instead, thanks to a mistake, he gets a copy of
"The Stoics", by Epictetus, and suddenly he finds himself
enlightened, and a link is grown between this working
cl man of today in the US and this greek philosopher
born before Christ.
