One of the great problems with much produced in the past is that it is totally irrelevant to the modern world, save as being purely for purposes of entertainment. 'Tom Jones', however, is extremely relevant to modern civilization because many of the events which take place within the story still occur, viz. pursuit of forbidden love, scorn from society, dealing with hypocrites, presense of misanthropes, and above all immorality. Personally, that is why I find the eighteenth century to be the century most like our own and most capable of being drawn upon. If you would like to discuss Jones's relevancy, or eighteenth century literature in general, please write.
