I have to say that, after much thought, I agree. I daresay that Ambrose's life is the most significant funhouse; he will never cease to wander in the dark... it's almost as if he is doomed to become that eccentric inventor of whom everyone takes advantage. Plus, he can understand things other people can't, but things most other people understand are mysteries for Ambrose, for example social behavior. He keeps everything welled up inside himself, unable to speak his true feelings to Magda or to his family.
I think that he does get out of the literal funhouse (maybe there is one...), but in an unconventional, unsatisfactory type of way. He didn't get to experience what funhouses are really made for: pulling pranks on friends, laughing, and ...fun, amusement. (On p.92, it mentions that Ambrose does get "out" of the funhouse, but he cannot really experience the "fun"house the way it was meant to be.)
