Hi,
To say John Calvin created "Calvinism" is sort of misleading. Calvinism was so named because of the enormous amount of work that Calvin put into exposition of the Bible and defending the truths he sought to express that were just re-emerging during the time of the Protestant Reformation. The actual truths exemplified and codified in Calvin's work were nothing more than ore less what Scripture says. Of course, there are many who disagree with me on that. A large majority of his work rested upon the works of an early Christian theologian, named St. Augustine, but no more than Agustine's writings reflected the thoughts of Jesus and the apostle Paul, themselves. His work shaped the lives of many future Christians... even great early American minds such as Jonathan Edwards, and the "prince of preachers" in England, Charles Spurgeon. If any Christian historian or theologian were asked to name the 5 greatest minds of church history, John Calvin would be high in the list. Aside from being a great theological mind, Calvin was also a committed pastor, caring deeply for his congregation. I will put a few links for your reading pleasure. If you search around for him on the internet, don't be surprised if you find a mixed bag. As with any controversial figure (who worked diligently to exposit teachings from Scripture that were themselves controversial... and still are), some people today consider him highly, while others would like to discredit him.
