Some define full employment either in terms of involvement of almost all economically active population in some kind of work over a period of time or in terms of income obtained from work/ employment.Both time and income approaches are insufficient yardsticks to measure full employment. A genuine definition of full employment should take into account: (1) the participation of all capable citizens in meaningful, socially required work, (2) adequate remuneration for work done, (3) the development of personal identity through participation in meaningful work; hence (4) contributing one's share to society. Without these, employment is not full employment, but coercive or alienating work to quote Marx.
