: : Please, could anybody tell me where I can find "De senectute" (original latin text) on the Net,and also the English translation of "de senectute"
Me,too. A Latin cl ignment when I was about 17, maybe younger, it struck and strikes me that Cicero was in his early twenties when he wrote it.That he could have had an unctuous motvation might have been a fly in the soup, but I flicked it out and found the rest of the contents nourishing.
What brought it to this 78 year old mind was a super Public Televison show this morning on age and the new age, a large part of which were interviews with senior (some, very!) citizens going back to college. Watching and hearing, I fancied that Marcus was observing a set condition, old age, deserving ofrespect, whereas this show depicted a charming kind of continuum (sic?) of lifeforce. Not contradictory, but perhaps an additional view.
That's why I'd like to re-read the essay.
