The method that you refer to is called the Method of Loci, if you want to read further about the Method of Loci simply search for it on the internet. In a brief lump in my words it is a memorization technique that begins with a path or house that is VERY familiar to you (like a walk around your house) when you hear the subjects replace items in your house that your used to with them in your mind. It's like someone who is used to the walk around a park in sanfrancisco hearing the word chocolate and visualizing the golden gate bridge as a gian candy bar.
