Suppose you were driving along a freeway to school one morning. Traffic, as usual, was heavy on south-bound lane. Your car was barely moving, your patience was running thin, you didn't want to be late for your Politics cl. You thought of driving "counterflow", that is to transfer to the north-bound lane to go to south. Suddenly, you thought of Hobbes and his "state of nature", in which the life of man was "nasty, brutish and short". Traffic rules suddenly struck you as an instance of social contract. You decided to stick to your lane and wait for traffic to ease. Naturally, you were late for cl. When asked why, you blamed traffic. Since you felt that it is not a very good excuse, you hasten to add that "Hobbessian Principles" prevented you from using excuses just so you could come on time. Your clmates were puzzled. They asked you to elaborate. Please do it as detailed as possible and before DECEMBER 1 of 1998 1:00 AM, I'd like to meet the person who would answer it ASAP. Thank you
