: I know nothing about physics, but I have heard Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principal encapsulated as "Observing an object changes it."
: Is that an acurate explaination? Are there data to support this?
: Any information would be appreciated.
There is data to support this at the sub-atomic level. However, on the large scale of everyday observations, the disturbance (or change) by the observer is ignorable. But it can not be ignored when the observer is looking at the atom. There is a lot of data to support the conclusion: "To observe is to disturb" at the sub-atomic level. I am currently exploring how a person disturbs a process (which invloves another person performing a procedure ie. an employee performing their tasks) by observing it. Why do you ask? Your question is really a very philosophical question and Enstein answered it once by stating: "It is the theory which decides what we can observe." So reality is all in our minds. We can only see what we have been trained, educated to see. We are limited by our culture, education, experience, language, etc.
