James was appointed a lecturer on Natural Religion at the University of Edinburgh. he originally planned to have two topics, each with ten lectures. He got involved in "Man Religious Appetites" and postponed the second part on " Their Satisfaction through Philosophy". He then did all 20 lectures on man's religious constitution.
