I think that although these are not revelations to you at this stage in your life, that they are revelations to the characters in this point in their lives. I was reminded of the joy of learning when my roomate, who is younger, discovered a texte on communications that was published in the 70s. Although I had read it and much current work that followed it, I was excited by her energy. She took the new information to heart and she was contaigeous. Not only did she suggest that everyone she knew read it, but she began exploring new avenues in her art and life. Perhaps that is Salinger's intention. Being reminded of the discovery of knowledge often reminds us of the way it opens our eyes. I hope this helps your thoughts on the novel. Personally I loved it.
